Intel updates Core i3-530/540 and Core i5-650 to KO stepping which will leave behind the existing C2 stepping. This update will start showing up in stores from next month.

Currently, as CPUs need to get updated to a new stepping, Intel updates Core i3-530/540 and Core i5-650 to KO stepping which will leave behind the existing C2 stepping. This update will start showing up in stores from next month.

This update of Core i3-530/540 and Core i5-650 to KO stepping contain stepping package pin compatibility with the C2 stepping, the new S-spec and MM numbers.

What's more, for the updated Core i3-530/540 and Core i5-650, the host RevID will be changed from 0x12 to 0x18, whereas the extended CPUID will switch from 0x00020652 to 0x00020655.

In addtion, the KO stepping will add Processor Context ID (PCID) support to improve multi-threaded or a large number of small-scale performance of the virtual machine environment and motherboards will have to get a BIOS update to fully recognize it as well.

KO updated Core i3-530/540, Core i5-560 will appear on October 16, 2010. Before this, several Core i3 and Core i5 Series "Clarkdale" processors will also get similar stepping upgrade which are Core i5-670/661/660/650, Core i3-540/530, Pentium G6950.
